Fresno Fly Fishers for Conservation
This is a pattern for a Skwala Stonefly that was found on the Kings River.
They are one of the first Stoneflies of the season. Look for them on
bright sunny days beginning in February. The picture is of a male. The
female has a dark egg sack.
Hook: TMC 200R or Daiichi 1270 it is a curved hook, size 10.
Thread: Yellow 6/0
Tail and Antenna: Moose body hair as light as possible.
Egg Sack: Black Antron dubbing
Abdomen: The rear part is Paxton’s Buggy Nymph Golden Stone dubbing;
the front part is SLF Yellow dubbing.
Thorax: SLF Yellow dubbing
Wing: Cow Elk body hair, grey in color.
Thorax Hackle: Three turns of barred ginger hackle.
Upcoming Events and Information
Place the hook into the vise; make a thread base then take the thread to
the front.
Tie two Moose body fibers for the antenna and two fibers for the tail.
Dub the front part of the abdomen with the SLF yellow dubbing.
Kings River Skwala Dry Fly

Stack your Cow Elk body hair and attach to the top of the hook.
Trim the excess Elk hair butts and tie in your Barred Ginger Hackle.
Dub the thorax loosely with the SLF yellow dubbing. The hackle stem should be buried
into the dubbing.
Make three turns of Barred Ginger Hackle and secure.
Make things neat and you are finished. Add enhancements as you like.
